We sat down with Laura, one of our Event Managers, to get her view on planning, on-the-day nerves and lots more. Read on for a little insight into Laura’s advice for your upcoming wedding.
How long have you been planning weddings, and what continues to inspire your passion for it?
As long as I have been with The West Mill! I absolutely love helping make the important day of the couple’s lives as special as it can be.
What’s your favourite part of the wedding day itself?
The speeches are my favourite part, I love hearing the stories about the couple and the love in the room!

What’s your no. 1 piece of advice for couples in the early stages of planning?
Try not to get carried away. There are three things people remember from a wedding: the food, how much fun they had and how beautiful the bride looked.
What’s a small detail that couples often overlook – but makes a big difference?
How much of an impact having a band can have over a DJ. They bring such a great atmosphere. The suppliers work so hard behind the scenes making everything perfect.
How do you help nervous couples feel confident and calm?
By building a relationship with the couple running up to the day. On the day, I chat to them, reassure them, stay calm and have a giggle with them. I always have a stash of supplies for a last minute emergency and tissues for any emotional moments!

From the moment we first contacted you, you were so approachable and made everything easy; we never felt like any question was too stupid. What’s the most creative or touching thing you’ve seen at a wedding here?
The most creative – bingo bongo after speeches. The guests had a wild time!
The most touching – The groom buying the bride a puppy!
What’s your favourite colour scheme?
Neutrals, creams, linen.
What’s your favourite flower combination?
Peonies & wild flowers.
What’s a dream wedding theme you’d love to help plan?
I’d love to help plan a Bridgerton-themed wedding.
