Your Love Story – how did you meet, was it love at first sight? Tell us about the proposal!
We met during a night out in our local town. We spent a year as friends chatting, then on another night out we met each other again. And from then on it was love at first sight.
Matthew proposed on a trip to Bruges after a day of sightseeing on minnewaterbrug, lovers bridge. It was very romantic and just absolutely perfect in every way that is us.
Your Wedding Day Vision & Inspiration What was your inspiration and vision for your day?
We are very bright people in every way, so creams and whites just weren’t going to cut it for us. Everyone who knows me, Frances, knows my love for pink so it was the only way forward. We wanted complete party vibes with discoballs and pops of pink. Between our florist Lisa and stylist Tara, they did an absolutely fantastic job at understanding my vision and I felt like I could put my complete trust into them on the day.
Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?
We visited a few different venues and they just weren’t us. As soon as we arrived at The West Mill, the staff were so welcoming and showed us around the entire venue, explaining all the small details of the building which make it so unique. As soon as we reached the ceremony floor, the two of us had an overwhelming feeling of ‘this is it’. And that was that. It was the most perfect venue and everyone said it on the day. It felt so us and the day ran so smoothly other the 4 floors. Jane, our wedding planner was just absolutely incredible all day. She’s so friendly and you can tell she absolutely loves her job. I couldn’t imagine a better wedding planner to have done the job!
Did you do any DIY projects?
Our stationery for the day was completely done by myself. I’ve always had a love for designing and creating things. It felt so personal on the day to do all my own stationery and see my visions come to life.
Tell us about the details – Flowers, Cake, Decor, Stationery….
Our cake was made by someone who I always buy my cakes from, Chloe (@chloescupcake). Together with my cake topper from daydreamer creative, our vision was brought to life. We did have a little hiccup as we fetched the cake the day before and it melted in the car on the way to our friend’s house to put it in their fridge. It’s funny now to look back and see the drips of icing running down, but at the time we weren’t half stressing as it wobbled around in the car.
Our flowers were by Lisa at enchanted florist. She was absolutely amazing at understanding what I wanted. I sent her across lots of vision boards to explain and left it in her control. she did not fail. I would say my flowers were my favourite part of everything. They completed everyone’s looks perfectly and I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. I can’t wait to receive them back in resin.
Alcohol. Because No Great Story Started With A Salad (…or did it?) What was on your food & drinks menu?
The food was absolutely incredible on our wedding day, it was complimented by all our guests. We had chorizo arancini for start, chicken with potatoes and veg for main (never tasted a roast potato like it, yum) and a white chocolate blondie with cookie dough ice cream for dessert which went down an absolute treat. Some of our guests said they ended up eating multiple as they were so good haha.
The guests also loved that we provided all our own wine, which was definitely a money saver for us. Lots of pink and white moscato to go around for everyone and of course a baileys shot to toast the new Baileys.
The Hangover Only Lasts A Day But The Memories Last A Lifetime Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?
Love, Laughter and Vibrant.
What are your favourite memories or highlights of your day?
Our favourite memory was once we were married, we were taken into the dressing room. We were so excited, jumping up and down saying ‘we’re married!’ It was lovely just to have a moment together and tell each other about our mornings apart.
Before the wedding breakfast we were taken away for some photos together. It was so intimate and lovely to just have some time to ourselves. The day can get quite overwhelming so it was nice just to get a second together and have a chat about our day.
And of course the party was one to never forget. Never again will we have so many of our friends and family in a room together at once. We kept taking steps back to watch everyone having a lovely time and it was just so so lovely.
Do you have any advice for future Brides & Grooms?
Just enjoy every single second and take everything in, it goes way too fast. Jane told me the day before to make sure I take everyone in as I walked down the aisle and I will never forget everyone’s faces looking back at me, I felt so loved in that moment.
Also please tell guests to come to you for photos, in that moment you’re not thinking about who you have and haven’t had photos with and I woke up the next day with no photos with half my guests. It can get quite overwhelming having photos, especially if you’re like us and aren’t used to all the posing.
But it was honestly the best day of our lives so far. We felt so much love around us and everyone has said how much of a good time they had. We wish we could do it all over again!
