Sophie & Gary

Real Wedding at The West Mill Venue, Derbyshire

Your Love Story?

Gary and I met on a night out, I saw him from across the dance floor (at 6’4” he stood out over the crowd)! I exclaimed to my friends that he was gorgeous! Where my friend then bet me I wouldn’t go and get his number…..guess I won that bet. After 7 year together in Dublin (my favourite place) he proposed to me in Dublin castle gardens, in a turret overlooking the garden (true prince charming style). Temprell (in Nottingham) had given him a ring to propose with and we designed the actual engagement ring together making it very personal to me and us.

What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

We wanted to keep things quite simple and minimal, to let the beauty of The West Mill show. We chose botanical themes with succulents, terrariums and green agate slices for place cards all to tie in with my emerald engagement ring. We really wanted to bring the outdoors in with foliage and moss hinting in areas (Nadia did an incredible job of this). Everything on the day surpassed our expectations from all our suppliers. We will never forget the day and the fragrance that was throughout The West Mill (we had large botanical candles burning from The White Cmpany). Most of all we really wanted all our family and friends to really have the most enjoyable day with us.

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

What a beautiful venue!!! It was perfect, we loved the whole aesthetics of the building, the surrounding area and that there were different floors for each part of the celebration. We loved the idea that each floor had purpose.

Did you do any DIY projects?

My friend (Victoria Higginson, @vix_Kaktus) create all of our terrariums that were then given as gifts to the family and bridesmaids.

Tell us about the details…
