Your Love StoryHow did you meet, was it love at first sight? Tell us about the proposal!

As described by our wonderful celebrant:

Our lovely couple met on a summers night 8 years ago, just after their first year exams had taken place at Leeds University. The venue was called The Mint Club which had a huge multi-coloured and quite sticky dance floor I am told, but that night it was the place to be and they had a great time dancing around and having fun, but they found a moment to escape and get some fresh air and they got chatting about lots of things, one thing being that they both played the double bass which is quite an unusual instrument to play, making the connection even more amazing.

There are so many other things that Eve and Dylan have in common and things that made them think they were made for each other.

Dylan feels that their relationship has been a slow burning, long lasting flame that has simply grown so beautifully and naturally over the years. He just finds Eve’s bubbly character so wonderful and she always brings warmth to an event be it meeting family or friends. Dylan values this so much and is what made him think “she’s the one for me”. Eve never thought she’d meet another person who was quite so good at embarrassing themselves as she was/is! They are a match made in embarrassment and forever falling over. One well known moment was when Eve fell down the stairs at Fruity, the Leeds Union Club where she went down the whole flight of stars and completely knocked herself out. Dylan who was the very concerned boyfriend, attempted to help his lovely girl, but in fact then also fell down the stairs and knocked himself out, landing on top of Eve!

Ah, romance. Nothing says “meant to be” like a concussion duet.

…..

This all led to Dylan finding the loveliest moment in their lives to propose marriage to his darling Eve.

He knew her well, and recognised that she would want it to be a romantic but personal moment where it was just the two of them, and so after he had gone to find a beautiful engagement ring in Nottingham, he started to set the scene. There is a Michelin Star restaurant in Nottingham called Alchemilla which is always booked up very well in advance as you can imagine, but guess what? The day that Dylan was looking for availability, all of a sudden there was a table for two that actually became available for the following Saturday! Dylan made the reservation, nonchalantly telling Eve that he wanted to go out for dinner at the weekend,  ‘somewhere casual’, to avoid her suspecting anything.

This special and lovely day was enjoyed with John, Eve’s Grandad who had come to see them in Nottingham and they all went to see the castle. For a February day, the weather was just stunning which added even more confidence to Dylan that he had chosen the right day for his proposal. Having enjoyed their day with John and had waved him off on his journey home, Eve went upstairs to get ready for dinner. Dylan took this moment to light candles and when Eve came downstairs, he told her that they were going to Alchemilla which made Eve so completely excited as she’d always wanted to go there. Dylan took this beautifully happy moment with Eve smiling and so excited, to ask her to marry him … and of course, Eve said yes. She so loved that Dylan had made this occasion private and cosy and just about them.

He chose to do this in their gorgeous new home , making it a very special memory for both of them to love and remember always.

Your Wedding Day Vision & Inspiration What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

Dylan said his priority was good food, good music, good drinks.

Eve’s priority was the flowers, especially her bouquet (which she loved)

The West Mill was perfect to organise all of these easily, stress free and affordably. Everything else fell just into place!

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

The West Mill is local to us so easy to visit. However more importantly the gorgeous industrial style suited us both perfectly! It is the perfect venue for both sun and rain (which we had). It is also unique, no one has been to a venue like it so made the day memorable for us and our guests.

Did you do any DIY projects?

Eve’s mum made all the confetti herself from her own garden (there was A LOT of it!)

Eve’s sister was ESSENTIAL for the day. She was MOH, sang her down the aisle, did her hair, make-up AND nails. True hero of the day 😊

Tell us about the details – Flowers, Cake, Decor, Stationary….

Eve made her own wedding cake – this was gluten free as she was recently diagnosed as a coeliac

We didn’t add much more décor as the venue has so much itself which we loved!

Alcohol. Because No Great Story Started With A Salad (…or did it?) What was on your food & drinks menu?

The caterers were incredible. We had SO many compliments about the food.

Canapes

Chicken Parfait and Marmalade Cone
Pulled Pork; Sage and Apple Bon Bon
Spiced Vegetable Bon Bon with Mint Raita

Wedding Breakfast

Spiced Beef Brisket served with an Onion Bhaji garnished with Pickled Cucumber and Carrot and Mint Raita
Pressed Lamb Shoulder; Rosemary and Redcurrant Sauce; Pomme Anna; Pea Puree
Sticky Toffee Pudding with Toffee Sauce; Creme Anglais

The Hangover Only Lasts A Day But The Memories Last A Lifetime Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?

Exciting, relaxed, romantic

What are your favourite memories or highlights of your day?

Eve walking down the aisle with her dad – that is when everything felt ‘real’

Dylans speech was perfect – full of laughter and memories.

Do you have any advice for future Brides & Grooms?

Prioritise the joy of the day! Love, family and friends – it is a day for celebration.
