Your Love StoryHow did you meet, was it love at first sight? Tell us about the proposal!

Olivia and I matched on Tinder in 2019. I (Laura) was serving in the Royal Navy and happened to be visiting family in Oxford for the weekend — Olivia lived there too. Our first date was at Woburn Safari Park (because nothing says romance like monkeys climbing on your car) and the rest is history. The proposal was a little less wild but just as memorable. While staying at the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai on the Palm, I secretly teamed up with a British events planner to transform our room. When we walked in, there were huge lit-up “MARRY ME” letters on the balcony, with a trail of petals, candles, and balloons everywhere — even on the ceiling. Safe to say, Olivia said yes!

Your Wedding Day Vision & Inspiration What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

Classic, green, clean & fun

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

We chose The West Mill because it offered everything we dreamed of — and more — all in one stunning, historic setting. The building and grounds are gorgeous in all seasons, with endless photo opportunities, whatever the weather. We loved that the day flows seamlessly across four unique floors, so our guests were never left waiting around for room turnarounds. The venue’s industrial-meets-rustic aesthetic was exactly our style — beautiful even without extra decoration — and the thoughtful touches included as standard (easels, LOVE letters, styling props, and pieces from the Mill’s history) made it feel so special without unexpected costs creeping in. Unlike many venues, there are no hidden extras for essentials like linen, glassware or cutlery, which made planning simple and stress-free. And the team are absolute superstars. A special shout-out to Lou, our events coordinator, who was flawless from start to finish — organised, reassuring, and genuinely invested in making our day perfect. She’s a real credit to The West Mill and made the whole experience unforgettable.

Tell us about the detailsFlowers, Cake, Decor, Stationery….

3 tier naked cake decorated with greenery, gold sign that read ‘The Kings’. We had this from The Melbourne Cake Company.

We used Kerry at Tineke Floral for all our flowers, and she was amazing. She created Olivia’s stunning bouquet, a mini bouquet for my suit, and matching ones for our groomsmen. One of our favourite pieces was a beautiful hanging floral arrangement at the end of the aisle, which was later moved to the breakfast room and hung behind us at the top table — it looked incredible in both spots. We also had flowers lining the aisle that were cleverly re-used on the tables for the wedding breakfast. Kerry was brilliant throughout, and we’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for creative, beautiful flowers for their day.

The Hangover Only Lasts A Day But The Memories Last A Lifetime Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?

Absolutely, Bl**dy, Brilliant

If we can’t swear 😂: Brilliant, Magical, Unforgettable

What are your favourite memories or highlights of your day?

There were so many amazing moments, but a few really stand out. Seeing Olivia walk down the aisle was incredible. Her parents surprised us with the Singing Waiters, which had everyone laughing and joining in, and the Highly Strung Trio who played during the wedding breakfast made the whole room feel so special.

Do you have any advice for future Brides & Grooms?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s so easy to get caught up in tiny details, but on the day you’ll realise most of it really doesn’t matter. Try not to let the planning stress take over — remember the day is about you two and what you love. Everyone says it, but you won’t believe it until it happens: the day goes by in a flash. Make sure you pause, take it all in, and feel proud of what you’ve created. Most importantly, relax and have fun celebrating with your family and friends — that’s what you’ll remember forever. You don’t realise you’re living one of the best days of your life until it’s a memory. Your photos and videos will become treasures you’ll look back on always.
