We’re fasting approaching wedding season and we simply cannot wait for the West Mill love stories of 2025. Summer weddings mean sunshine ceremonies, riverbank drinks, outdoor music, golden hour sunsets, games on the lawn and so many more joyful moments. If you’re planning your wedding for this summer, or perhaps 2026/2027, take a look at our tips for planning a seamless summer wedding.
Selecting the Ideal Venue
We’ll of course be biased and say that The West Mill is the ultimate summer venue (because it is) but if you don’t choose us, make sure you’re looking for a venue that accommodates summer conditions. Ensure the location offers ample shade and ventilation, and if you’re considering an outdoor ceremony, ensure that there are shaded areas or options to set up cooling stations to keep guests comfortable. At The West Mill, our Edwardian building stays cool on hot days, with The Gallery on the ground floor creating the perfect space to escape the heat. There’s also plenty of shade created by trees throughout our gardens, so you and your guests can stay outside most of the day.

Appropriate Attire
Opt for light, breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, and chiffon for both you and your partner as well as your wedding party. Brides might consider lightweight dresses with minimal embellishments, while grooms can choose linen or cotton suits in light colours.
Seasonal Menu Planning
Design a menu featuring refreshing, light dishes that incorporate seasonal fruits and vegetables. Offer plenty of chilled beverages like iced tea, lemonade, and coconut water to keep guests hydrated. Avoid heavy, spicy foods that may be uncomfortable in the heat. You’ll plan the perfect menu with our catering team Jenkinsons.
Guest Comfort Measures
We’ll provide amenities such as water stations or parasols to ensure guest comfort. Offering sunscreen and insect repellent can also enhance the guest experience. Small touches can significantly improve guest comfort. Providing items like personalised fans, offering shoe solutions for outdoor settings, and ensuring accessible hydration stations can make the event more enjoyable.
Weather Contingency Plans
If you’re thinking of having an outdoor ceremony, prepare for unexpected weather changes by having a backup plan. Our iconic Cotton Quarter is the perfect space for your ceremony, and we can easily move everything inside should it rain on your day. This ensures the celebration continues smoothly despite any summer showers.
Floral Considerations
Select flowers that can withstand warmer temperatures to maintain vibrant arrangements throughout the event. Consult with your florist about the best options for summer weddings.
By thoughtfully addressing these aspects, you can create a summer wedding that is both beautiful and comfortable for everyone involved. For more wedding planning advice, visit our blog.
