Your Love Story How did you meet, was it love at first sight? Tell us about the proposal!

We booked a Christmas getaway to Cape Verde December 2021. With the holiday drawing to an end we took a sunset stroll along the beach to a little beach bar. After a few drinks Callum completely shocked me by pulling the ring out and proposing!!

We were both in tears, neither of us able to get a word out (it wasn’t pretty lol) but it had finally happened!

We celebrated that night (and for the remainder of the holiday) and as soon as we returned home we got our dream venue booked.

Your Wedding Day Vision & Inspiration What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

The Mill already has so much character, so we knew we didn’t need to do a lot decoration wise for our day. We kept a neutral theme, green and white flowers, but we had them scattered everywhere, The venue smelt amazing.

I had white peonies in my bouquet, my favourite flower, and the groomsmen had wild flower button holes. This was the only detail we gave our florist, we let her have free reign on everything else and she just smashed it.

We dressed the chairs in drapes and had flowers attached to these, the breakfast floor also had large centrepiece stands with trailing flowers on them. The tables were dressed with runners and each person had a little handmade clay name setting with a tassel that colour matched the bridesmaid dresses.

We ensured that the little things didn’t become the big things, and focused on making the day a celebration and party.

We planned the big things early, which took so much pressure off as the wedding approached, and it meant we got all the suppliers we wanted as well.

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

Our friends got married here before Covid and we enjoyed the day so much. It was like no other venue we had every visited. The building itself has so much character, and the atmosphere it brings was so warming and inviting.

As soon as we got engaged we looked at other venues in the area but nothing compared to The West Mill for what we wanted from our big day, we booked a viewing and the rest was history.

Did you do any DIY projects?

We made our own crisp wall which went down a storm!

Tell us about the details – Flowers, Cake, Decor, Stationary….

Flowers – Sarah was given free reign with just the instruction of my bouquet needing peonies and the centrepieces to have trailing Ivy after my Grandma Ivy

Cake was made by Callums mum who is a chef, the top layer was lemon and elderflower, the middle ‘worlds best chocolate cake’ and the bottom was a fruit cake. The cake went down a storm on the evening and all 3 layers were enjoyed!

Décor was done by myself and Callum with help from family and Shannon/Louise. We visited the venue a few weeks before the wedding and took photos of where we wanted everything, from flowers to signage and made a guide for our suppliers.

Menus were created by myself and the signage was created bespoke by myself and Callum on a website called Mallys crafts then printed and shipped by the company.

Clay name place settings were Etsy shop Wilf&Sass

We also had our first dance song remixed by a good friend which went down a storm with our guests @djkevjnr

The Hangover Only Lasts A Day But The Memories Last A Lifetime Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?

Cliché but BEST.DAY.EVER!!!!!!

What are your favourite memories or highlights of your day?

The whole day was just incredible. Putting on my dress in the dressing room, seeing my dad for the first time, seeing my husband for the first time and the butterflies walking down the aisle.

The time after the ceremony we had together was great, and much needed.

The food was just incredible!! Everyone commented how good the food was!!

We had a Jeraboam of Moet for toasts and Callum went round with this whilst I went round with a magnum. It enabled us to speak to people as we poured and was a highlight for us both.

Do you have any advice for future Brides & Grooms?

Do not hesitate to book this venue!! From meeting our planner (Shannon) right through to the day after, the communication and planning was just incredible. Trust the process, everything went perfect on our day and I didn’t need to worry about anything, the staff are a credit to the venue, the attention to detail from every single person was just amazing.

We also booked the Mill house the night before and it was the best decision we made, it made getting everyone ready so easy and made our morning so stress free!
