{Styled Shoot} Urban Organic – Prohibited Love

{Styled Shoot} Urban Organic - The West Mill Wedding venue, Derbyshire | Photography: HBA Photography | www.thewestmillvenue.com

One slightly foggy day Team West Mill and organic florist Nadia Di Tullio Flowers brewed an idea over a pot of Earl Grey, an idea for a shoot to showcase the venues hidden gems. Focusing on distressed walls, hidden places (still to be renovated hidden loft), The West Mill’s uber-cool booths and the woodland hollow.

The focus was to combine an urban and edgy prohibition feel, featuring concrete, copper and organic foliage to inspire your wedding day from day to evening.

We assembled our super ‘A’ team of talented suppliers and picked styling and decorative elements that would contrast beautifully with the converted cotton mill’s raw and stripped back interiors.

Nadia says: Several members of the team on this shoot had worked together previously, and created some really beautiful images in the past that were soft, romantic and very feminine. This time however, they were really keen to style a shoot loosely based on the prohibition era of the 1920’s, adding in a modern, slightly darker twist. Sultry brides and rock and roll grooms was what we were looking for!

We’re over the moon with the images and we hope this stylish and fresh wedding inspiration will provide you with fabulous ideas for everything from table settings and décor to beauty and attire.

The West Mill Venue has so many quirky and intrinsically unique features, so we were keen to highlight the style of the venue as well as playing with a more edgy, masculine vibe. Most shoots are very much geared towards the bride so we wanted to create something that grooms could connect with too.

The Styling:

The styling was all about accentuating the raw, urban nature of venue and highlighting its exposed brick work, rusted ceilings and slate floors. With than in mind, we used accessories such as copper lanterns and handmade cement table numbers to tie it all together.

The Flowers & Fashion:

The soft organic blooms by Nadia Di Tullio, created the perfect juxtaposition to the Mill’s interior. As did the glamour of the silk Belle & Bunty dresses, Florrie & Eve floral hair pieces and stunning Rachel Simpson shoes.

The Hair & Makeup:

The models had soft, natural makeup with a gorgeous glow, beautifully applied by Jenni Hughes, and their hair was tousled to perfection by Kiki and Holly, of Air Hairdressing.

The Details:

To complete the scene we had stationery from Best Day Ever, cakes by Yummy Little Cakes, vintage china provided by Darby & Joan, draping from Fabric Theatre, as well as Speakeasy Bar who shook up the perfect cocktails at the prohibition bar.

The day itself was full on from start to finish, and we’re so grateful for everyone really who pulled together to make it work. Massive thank you to Ben from HBA, who didn’t stop shooting from the moment he arrived and for all the fabulous images.

We hope you love the images as much as we do and hope they inspire your own wedding planning too!

Lots of Love
