Your Love Story?
We met at work, we got chatting one day and realised how much we laughed, we became friends and the rest as they say is history! Ross came around to my house one weekend and never really left haha.
After only a year and a half Ross proposed at a Nottingham Panthers ice hockey match in front of 4,500 people! The moment was incredible and our story was in the paper too.
What was your inspiration and vision for your day?
Our vision for the day was colour!!! We knew we wanted bright and colourful and individual, our colours were…purple, blue, green, pink and orange. The groomsmen had different colours, 10 including Ross. He and best man had purple theme, then the 8 groomsmen; 2 had orange, 2 had blue, 2 had green and 2 had pink, the colours being in their braces, laces and bow ties. We were so happy with how they looked! They came together so well.
My bridesmaids wore tulle skirts, pink, orange, green and blue, and silver sequin tops with denim jackets for after, they looked so beautiful! It all came together exactly how we wanted, our colourful day.
Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?
It was the first and ONLY venue we visited, we looked around, it was perfect, we both cried and we knew it was the venue we needed. So different to other places we could have looked at, it suited us and the feel that we wanted.
Did you do any DIY projects?
Our centre pieces were various alcohol bottles which we had saved over months with lights inside. We didn’t feel we needed anything bigger and they worked perfectly for us. I decorated mannequin torsos with tattoos, these represented us as we both have tattoos.
Tell us about the details…
My dress was Provonias, I never intended on a long dress, I originally wanted a knee length 50’s style but they all looked awful on me! I decided to open my mind to others and I went to a sample sale and my local bridal shop in Derby where I fell in love with my dress, it was a really good price so I snapped it up there and then after I tried it on, my mum surprised me by buying it for me bless her.
I decided I wanted a different kind of bouquet, My MIL does a lot of knitting so I asked her if she would knit my bouquet, she took up the challenge and it was amazing, everything I wanted, she even learned to crochet for it too! She made button holes also for the groomsmen and Ross, amazing she is.
The cake was fantastic, we chose to have a Vegan Cake, after having a few refusals from various cake makers, LR Cakes (who Ross’ mum knew of) accepted the challenge of a vegan cake, we explained the kind of cake we would like and she invited us for a taster. She had made so many different flavours, all from scratch, every single ingredient even down to blanching hazelnuts! We opted for chocolate orange on bottom layer, chocolate mint on the middle tier and the top tier was salted caramel popcorn! It was a massive cake! And it was fantastic, designed with tattoo style decoration and a big heart on top.
What was on the Menu?
Drinks reception: Bucks Fizz.
Toast: Cava with Unicorn Shimmer dust for different shimmery colours, shots of homemade (by a friend) Lemoncello.
Table: Red, Pink and White wines.
Starters: Watermelon and cucumber salad or chicken and apricot terrine.
Mains: Roast loin of pork with seasonal vegetables or roast veg risotto.
Pudding: vegan chocolate brownie with vegan ice cream.
We catered for everyone with our menus we chose for meat eaters, vegans, vegetarians and made sure there was also gluten free for our Coeliac guests.
What was your favourite part of the wedding?
We couldn’t possibly choose a favourite part of the wedding, the entire day was incredible! It was fun scrambling over rocks and logs to get those perfect photos though, having family around us was just amazing, family who hadn’t ever met finally met on the day, what a feeling!
Do you have any advice for future brides & grooms?
Plan everything with plenty of time! Choose how you plan your wedding for you and not for others, it’s your day! Choose the West Mill, it’s seriously beautiful in every way. Do DIY, it will help if you are on a budget, research your photographer! Having a good photographer is absolutely essential for the day.
Mostly, have fun and enjoy the day, it may not all go to plan but it’s part of the day so it doesn’t matter!
Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?
Amazing, breathtaking and beautiful.
