Wedding Style: A summer wedding with gorgeous greenery, copper accents & a bath filled with booze!
Real Wedding at The West Mill Venue, Derbyshire
Your Love Story?
We met at playgroup all those years ago. We grew up in the same village and went to different primary schools & then ended up going to the same secondary school where we became good friends at the age of 13.
We officially got together when we left school at the tender age of 16 & we’ve been pretty inseparable since.
The proposal was on 01.12.2016 and it was the most perfect setting. We were putting up the Christmas tree with Michael Buble playing in the background (so cliche). Matt turned the lights on, on the tree and told me he had a little present for me. I thought it was an advent calendar so you can guess how happy I was when it wasn’t!! My mum and sister were waiting in the freezing cold outside for the lights to come on. It’s safe to say I had absolutely no idea but I’d waited such a long time for it! We drank champagne & I cried non stop for at least 2 hours.
What was your inspiration and vision for your day?
We wanted a really industrial themed wedding & a really relaxed day.
Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?
We actually decided on the venue as soon as we pulled up in the car park. It was everything and more than we could have ever imagined. The building itself it’s just perfect and the setting behind is just stunning.
Did you do any DIY projects?
We did quite a lot of DIY projects. The biggest was sourcing the perfect bath to hold our booze! We had a vision from the start of what we wanted so we were pretty happy to find the one we did.
The curtain took absolutely ages to make as it’s so fiddly and unfortunately it got tangled up which we had to spend hours fixing.
Tell us about the details…
Flowers: we wanted foliage rather than flowers because we wanted to try something a little less traditional. We were both really happy with our choice as the colouring went perfect with the suits and bridesmaid dresses.
Cake: Emma Hello Cake is Leanne’s best friend so we left the cake up to her as she knew the style wedding we were going for. She definitely didn’t let us down! Emma made us 3 cakes complete with foliage and gold foil.
Dress: The dress was absolutely stunning!! I was so exited for Matt to see it because I know it wouldn’t be what he expected. Everyone commented on how perfect it was which is always nice to hear.
What was on the Menu?
For starters we went for a salad to start complete with sundried tomatoes & feta cheese.
Main we went for chicken with roast potatoes and veg (who doesn’t like that?)
For desert we had lemon cheesecake with a raspberry sauce
What was your favourite part of the wedding?
Walking down the aisle! I just remember smiling so much my face hurt.
Do you have any advice for future brides & grooms?
Don’t get stressed, I made myself ill the week before because I was stressing so much about the small stuff & on the day I didn’t even notice any of it. The day goes so quickly so grab your other half and take it all in but most importantly have the best day ever!!
