Your Love Story?

We went to school together, but didn’t start dating until after a few years we had left.

The proposal was on my 29th Birthday weekend, Liam had organised a surprise weekend away to Scotland to go on The Jacobite (aka The Hogwarts Express from Harry Potter!). I am a huge Harry Potter fan so it was an amazing surprise! Liam had organised a private booth, where they actually filmed some of the scenes from the film, and a bottle of champagne and proposed as we departed.

What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

We wanted for it to feel completely like us, from start to finish and down to some of the detail. Hence the Harry Potter names and seating plan! We wanted to place emphasis on the food and drinks, which is why we created our own menu with Jenkinsons to serve Tapas which is our favourite style of food.

It was important that our dog Barkley was part of the day too, and he featured as one of the ushers by walking down the aisle.

Apart from that our main focus was to have the best time we could with the people we love most, and we came away feeling like we had.

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

We loved the style of the venue, it being different to a traditional wedding venue. The fact we could get married on the same site really appealed to us as we wanted to make sure the flow of the day continued naturally from the very start to the very end. We felt like it really suited us as a couple as we loved the decoration from the moment we saw it. We felt we could add our own twist to the day which would compliment the venue as it is already. All of our guests were so impressed with the venue, just as we were when we first saw it.

The Mill House was a fantastic place to be able to stay, even though this wasn’t known when we booked the venue, we loved it. I also stayed there with my bridesmaids the night before the wedding which again was perfect and made the morning of the wedding extra special.

Did you do any DIY projects?

We drew on a lot on the skills of  our family and friends that attended the day and used their expertise to help create the perfect look!  Megan did the flowers, my grandma made the cake, Charlotte (Bridesmaid) engraved the centre piece crates and my Grandad varnished them. Jade created the artwork for the stationary by illustrating these by hand, Chris played the piano during the ceremony and Danny DJ’d at night.

Tell us about the details…

Flowers – we wanted a leafy, green, simple approach. We added in natural cotton on the plant to pay tribute to the venue once being used for spinning cotton. I had hand made silk flowers made for my bouquet with white petals and navy inner to match back with the suits and bridesmaid dresses.

Cake – simple naked style Victoria Sponge. My grandma made this as it’s the best cake we have ever had, the bridesmaids put it together on the day!

Dress – Catherine Deane

Veil – Joyie

What was your favourite part of the wedding?

The ceremony really stood out to us – the whole atmosphere in the room was so happy and exciting.

Do you have any advice for future brides & grooms?

Stick to your guns – work out what is really important for you as a couple on the day and prioritise accordingly. You can get carried away with feeling like you need to do everything, but you don’t! Keep it simple, make it easy for yourselves!

Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?

Love, Laughs and banging tunes!
