Your Love Story?

We met over 8 years ago when we were at university in Leeds. We both worked in the same bar where friendship blossomed into love. When we finished university, we moved back to my home town of Stockport and in December 2014 we flew out to Kerela, India for NYE to meet our friends who were travelling Asia at the time. On 03/01/15 we went to see two large waterfalls. Me and Sam split off from the group and went for a wander; here we sat down on a tree root to take in the views then Sam asked me to marry him. It was beautiful and it was great to celebrate that evening with our close friends. As soon as we got back to England we started to look for venues and we found the ‘West Mill’.

What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

The west mill is so beautiful we did not want to go overboard with the decorations; we loved the calligraphy banners which Allie from Polly so we had a gold leaf banner at the end of the aisle which said ‘I’m kinda looking forward to spending the rest of my life with you’ – that’s a quote from our favourite show ‘Castle’ which is really geeky. The rest of our decorations were purple and gold; I thought the metallic gold would go with the industrial feel of the building.

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

We live in Stockport which is full of Mills, so I googled Mills you can get married in and the West Mill came up; it was just a landing page as the building was still being renovated. We booked an appointment and Andrew the owner met us. When we walked in, it was just a shell with holes in the floor but we knew it was the one; Andrew was so enthusiastic and told us all his ideas we knew it was going to be amazing. 6 months later we came back to the opening and the building looked even better than we had imagined we felt so lucky to have found it!

Did you do any DIY projects?

I hand stamped all of the confetti which we used for the confetti toss and for the table decorations; I stamped the pages of mine and Sam’s favourite books called Seven Ancient Wonders (it’s a geeky Indiana Jones type book). I also used pages of this book to make pouches to hold the confetti for the confetti toss.

Tell us about the details…

I wanted my look to be simple and timeless; my dress was a satin white fishtail with a sweetheart neckline. My flowers were roses, lavender, hydrangeas and rosemary tied together with a gorgeous gold ribbon – the flowers were wild looking which contrasted with my dress. I went for a naked cake which was lemon flavour in the top and bottom tier and vanilla in the middle tier – its was so yummy!

What was on the Menu?

We had the duck duo to start followed by BBQ to table. The BBQ to table was great as it made tables come together to share the sides. The portions were so generous it was great. For desert we had the chocolate and salted caramel tart which was divine; I wish I could have it again!

What was your favourite part of the wedding?

Our wedding day was the happiest day of our lives; every moment was special. My most memorable moment was hearing ‘Kissing you’ start playing, my sisters and nephew setting off down the aisle and entering the room with my father; the smell of lavender candles, seeing all of my dearest friends and then seeing Sam at the end of the aisle waiting for me. When I got to the end Sam told me I looked incredible and suddenly all the nerves and emotions disappeared as I was going to marry my true love. It will be a memory which will last for ever.

Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?

Happiness, Laughter and Love

Do you have any advice for future brides and grooms?

Be organised but don’t sweat the little things; I obsessed about little things which I don’t even think people noticed on the day. Get a videographer; videos make your wedding come back to life – you also see all your guests having the best time. Thank you so much Team West Mill and Emily our event co-ordinator on the day; the day went so smoothly, it was perfect!
