Your Love Story?

We met at Chesterfield Rugby Club which Shereen played for. We were friends for just over a year before Shereen decided to pluck up the courage to ask Hannah out. The engagement followed 8 months later at Manchester Pride, where Shereen proposed at Rio Ferdinands restaurant Rosso. She asked the restaurant if they would write ‘Will you marry me?’ in chocolate around her dessert plate and was thrilled when she said yes. We then brought our first home together and moved in, in March 2018.

What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

A rustic, vintage theme that complimented the venue.

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

As soon as we walked into the venue we knew that this was the venue for us.

Did you do any DIY projects?

 We made all of the table decorations and cake stand.

Tell us about the details… 

We had two years to plan our wedding (with the help of pintrest) we knew the colour scheme we wanted from the very early stages but as soon as we decided on the stunning venue we knew that the theme should be rustic/vintage with little quirks such as the wooden spool table place names to tie the décor into the venues history.

The dresses were both from Something Special Bridal. Hannah’s was a satin sweetheart neckline, A-line dress with delicate beading on the bodice and down the back of the dress. Shereen’s was a tulle sweetheart neckline A-line dress with a very light floaty style.

The flowers were all delicate pinks, whites and greens to match the rustic theme and had a hessian band around the stems.

The cake was a three tier soft grey and white cake decorated by handmade white flowers with navy blue ribbon edging. We went for a very simple looking cake as we felt this was most fitting to the venue. The top tier was classic vanilla flavour, the second tier was sticky toffee pudding flavour and the final largest tier was chocolate mud cake.

We also had a sweet table which went down very well with all the guests,  adults and children alike.

Decoration wise we kept everything to a bare minimum as we felt it was important to let the venue speak for its self .

The table décor for the wedding breakfast was again simple and rustic, in keeping with the venue. We had a wooden log slice topped with a glass kilner jar containing fairy lights and a miniature Gin bottle which held the table name. Next to the jar was an empty Gin bottle containing a sprig of Gyp. Scattered on the log were wooden buttons and hearts to continue the rustic theme. Each guest had a hand painted wooden spool with a vintage name tag attached which had been individually hand stamped letter by letter to look as though they were typed with a vintage type writer. The favours were a card made from craft paper saying “for richer for poorer” with a plastic coin attached with our names and wedding date on they each contained a scratch card. The children had activity packs and bubbles to keep them entertained during the speeches. The table names were all songs that meant something to both brides.

What was on the Menu?

The starter was anti pasti with cream cheese stuffed peppers, sun dried tomatoes and rustic breads. The main meal was a traditional chicken dinner with seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. The dessert was a trio of desserts containing a vanilla cheesecake, strawberries dipped in chocolate and a chocolate cup filled with praline mousse.

The children had a chicken dinner and a chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert.

The vegetarians had the same started and dessert but had a vegetable wellington for their main.

The evening food was a traditional BBQ with sausages, burgers, spicy wedges, onion rings and coleslaw and had the wedding cake cut up for dessert.  

What was your favourite part of the wedding?

Its incredibly hard to pick a favourite  part of the wedding, the day went so smoothly and we had such a great day. Abi our wedding planner was fantastic and looked after us so well we really wouldn’t change any part of the day.

The venue was everything we hoped it would be and we are so glad we chose to hold our wedding at the West Mill.

Do you have any advice for future brides & grooms?

Don’t panic, enjoy the day it goes so quickly. Don’t let the little things that go wrong upset you and get you down the guests will not have even noticed.

Remember the day is about celebrating love, relax and enjoy yourselves (after planning your big day you’ve earned it).
