Real Wedding at The West Mill Venue, Derbyshire

What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

From the minute we walked in, we realised that the venue spoke for itself and it wouldn’t take a lot to make it perfect. We wanted something very rustic and classy to follow through the whole day.

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

The mill was the first venue we looked at and we instantly fell in love as soon as we walked through the door. Our favourite band are Biffy Clyro, and when we first arrived they were playing on the ground floor. We knew it was a sign. It was honestly like nothing else we had seen before.

Did you do any DIY projects?

The majority of the things we made ourselves from the hanging backdrop for the ceremony to the seating plan and photo board. We thought it would be more personal for us to make things ourselves and during the day we got to see it all in action.

Tell us about the details…

We had an issue with flowers to start with, but Nadia stepped in and saved the day. She did an absolutely amazing job and I fell in love with my bouquet as soon as I saw it. Everything was as we wanted it to be, fitting in with the day so perfectly.

We wanted the cake to be classy but different, Emma took our ideas and brought them to life. And… it tasted out of this world.

My dress ♥️♥️♥️ I honestly felt like a princess, I fell in love as soon as I saw her. Amanda at Opulence is an absolute gem and helped me find my dream dress, I felt like I never knew was possible.

From day one we knew we wanted a seating plan that was different, and after finding the ladder I knew that was it, but we really wanted to put the architect board to use. We came up with the idea of a picture board with the wedding party and family on. This would give our guests something additional to look at whilst waiting to find their seats. Everyone commented on the board and it’s not a perfect feature in our home.

What was on the Menu?

As soon as we viewed the venue we knew we didn’t want a traditional wedding breakfast. We wanted something fun and different. We decided on an afternoon tea. On our meeting with Jenkinsons we explained exactly what we wanted, and on the day it was better than what we envisioned ourselves. Sandwiches and savouries to start and cakes followed by tea and scones, it was all perfectly presented, and our guests absolutely loved it all.

What was your favourite part of the wedding?

Our favourite part was when we saw first saw each other. After waiting in the dressing room knowing that all of our guests were next door made me nervous. As soon as I walked around the corner and saw her all the nerves went and it felt like no one else was in the room. The day on a whole was perfect and from start to finish.

Do you have any advice for future brides & grooms?

Our advice would be to try and take in as much as possible, the day goes by so quickly. Spend as much time with each other as possible and take little moments just the two of you. Oh and also smile even when you think nobody is watching. Your photographer will always be there!

And we would like to say the biggest of thank you’s to Nikki on your events team. She is an absolute angel and not only made everything perfect on the day but was there to calm us both down when we needed it. She made the whole day possible and we cannot thank her enough.

Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?
