Real Wedding at The West Mill Venue, Derbyshire

Your Love Story?

Beth came up to Derby one weekend to see a friend and met Chris through Rolls Royce friends.  After a few years long distance, Beth in London and Chris in Derby, Beth moved up to Derby.  In 2018 we went for a lovely weekend in Beths favourite seaside town Whitby and went for a nice walk on a chilly bright Sunday morning to Saltwick Bay, along the cliffs.  It was there that Chris got down on one knee and popped the question.  Alot of excitement was followed by Beth saying yes and a classic fish and chip lunch celebration!

What was your inspiration and vision for your day?

Vision was family and friends – we wanted to just have a fab day celebrating the love we have for each other and the impact our family and friends have on our lives.  We wanted a relaxed, fun day that just summed us up perfectly, from the food, to the drink and the dancing.

Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?

We both fell in love with the venue as soon as we walked in.  The interior and style fit what we were looking for perfectly, and was different to anything we’d seen before.

Did you do any DIY projects?

Nothing too much – all the little bits, like the table plan and table settings, but the venue was just so perfect we didn’t need to add anything really.

Tell us about the details…

As soon as we saw that Marks and Spencers did a Bride and Groom Colin the Caterpillar we knew we had to have them. Beth’s sister Rachel’s good friend was amazing at putting together the flowers, which we chose to have artificial because we wanted to be able to keep them. Importantly, Beth has a picture of her Dad who passed away, woven into the bridal bouquet which was very special.

Beth’s dress was a design by White Rose which she adapted to be off the shoulder. It was the first dress shop she went into and fell in love with the dress as soon as she put it on. A belt was added (thank you eBay!) and it just set the dress off perfectly. Beth wanted the bridesmaids to feel comfortable, so they chose the best design for them and the colours were chosen as we wanted a nice deep colour to set off the February time and weather.

The best men were in suits from Moss Bros with Paul Smith pocket squares, to give a bit of colour to match the flowers and wine red ties. Chris has the wedding date stitched into the inside of his tailored suit as a nice addition.

What was on the Menu?

Drinks reception was prosecco, different ales and beer, and soft drinks, with 4 different canapes.  Scallops wrapped in pancetta, venision and black pudding scotch egg, asparagus with olive tapanade and spinach and cheese calzone.
Wedding Breakfast was our favourite food.  Smoked salmon bruchetta, a delicious main of Bangers and mash, with yorkshire puddings (beth is a proud Yorkshire girl!) and green beans, and a trio of desserts consisting of lemon posset, chocolate brownie and white chocolate brioche.

What was your favourite part of the wedding?

The whole day!  Seeing all our friends and family together, in such amazing weather (it was 20 degrees in February!) just having a fantastic time.  Also, the speech by Beth’s siblings got everyone crying – always a winner.

Do you have any advice for future brides & grooms?

Don’t worry about everyone else! This is your day – don’t get bogged down in trying to please everyone as they’re just happy to be there and celebrate with you.  Make sure you take time out to enjoy it just the two of you (one of our favourite bits was just after we got married, looking down at the crowd of friends and family in the courtyard from the top floor seeing everyone we know and love) and don’t forget why you’re there!  Its a celebration of the two of you and enjoy the planning! It absolutely doesn’t need to be stressful.  Also…delegate!!  Get people to help you before and on the day – they absolutely will and makes it so much easier.

Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?

Joyous, dancing, fun!
