It’s the most wonderful time of the year and so we’re casting our minds back to Christmas 2015 when the drop-dead-gorgeous Rebecca & Patrick married with us. Their day was full of love, sparkle and elegance – what a pleasure it was to host your perfect Christmas wedding! Your Love Story?
We knew each other through mutual friends at University but our first conversation was at a Valentine’s Day party in 2008. We were 19 then so we have essentially grown up together experiencing everything from graduation, first job, first house etc… Patrick proposed on my 27th birthday while we were away celebrating in London.
What was your inspiration and vision for your day?
We didn’t have a strict theme but we joked that our inspiration was ‘A Midwinter Night’s Dream’. We wanted lots of foliage, woodland-inspired flower arrangements, candlelight and fairy lights. We felt that a winter wedding had the potential to be really romantic … and we were right!
Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?
The West Mill was the first venue we saw (the weekend after we got engaged) and we knew straight away that it was for us. We always called it ‘the perfect juxtaposition’. It was industrial but romantic, youthful but historic, big but inviting – it ticked all our boxes!
Did you do any DIY projects?
For favours and place cards we used black and white polaroids of our guests. Instead of a displaying a table plan, our master of ceremonies welcomed our guests to the wedding breakfast by announcing ‘Find your face to find your place’
Tell us about the details…
My embellished, backless gown was the ‘Marisela’ style by Pronovias and was purchased at Rococo Weddings in Melbourne, Derbyshire. The bridesmaid dresses were from ASOS and suited every age and shape… and they were the perfect amount of ‘sparkly’ for a winter wedding. As my mum is a trained florist we had a lot of fun envisioning and creating the arrangements together. I knew I wanted a lot of greenery and foliage along with romantic dusky pinks and wintery berry tones. We decorated the trestle tables and pillars with ivy, eucalyptus and ruscus and the bouquets and arrangements included roses, thistles and dried hydrangeas. We opted for a naked wedding cake, but with a wintery twist. The Organic Wedding Cake Company did a great job of decorating the cake with holly, fresh spruce, cinnamon and dried fruit.
What was your favourite part of the wedding?
We loved every part but we particularly enjoyed the wedding breakfast and speeches as it gave us the opportunity to connect with all of our guests in one place.
Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?
Full of love!
Do you have any advice for future brides and grooms?
When it comes to planning your wedding day, don’t over think and go with your instinct.
