Your Love Story?
We met at work and became friends immediately. Over the coming months that friendship grew until we both realised we had completely fallen for each other.
On February 4th 2016 I booked Alex in at the local hairdressers to have her hair done (mainly because I wanted to get her out of the house!). I planned to propose in our home so needed a couple of hours after work to get everything ready. She arrived home, came through the door into darkness with some of our favourite songs playing, then turned on the light to reveal an alphabet hung throughout the room with memories and reasons I love her. At the end of the alphabet was the door through to the living room and as she came through I was there on one knee, with the ring, surrounded by candles. She had no idea and said yes! The next day we went to see The Lion King in London so had a really magical weekend.
A few months later, on Easter Sunday, Alex took me out for the day to Sherwood Forest. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had a really long walk around the forest, and then drove to the nearby Sherwood Pines. She opened up the boot which has a beautiful display of Easter eggs and some special boxes in between. The final box was an Easter egg box, where the ring was inside. She got down on one knee and proposed. It was amazing. Chocolate and diamonds, what more could a girl want!
What was your inspiration and vision for your day?
Adventure and metallics! We love to explore and getting married really is starting an adventure so we wanted to base the theme around that. We also love anything metallic so had lots of gold, sparkles and sequins in the décor.
We both have families that love music and love to dance so that’s why we booked The Bowkers for the drinks reception. It was really lively and they set the party off straight away! The wedding breakfast came at the right time as everyone needed a rest by then!
Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?
The West Mill is the most beautiful venue. As soon as we arrived to look around we knew it was the venue for us; so different, stunning and well looked after. The staff are incredibly friendly, well organised and run it to a T.
Did you do any DIY projects?
We collected over 200 jars and sprayed them all gold! Our garden patio was like a shrine for a few weeks after that! We also made our card box and collected a lot of props for the day.
Tell us about the details…
Our stunning flowers were from the Vanda Vase florist in Stapleford. Sami has such creative flair, it’s inspiring. We wanted really deep and rich colours throughout, she also created a beautiful back drop. We would really recommend her.
We both found our dresses at Wed 2 B, separately went with our Mum’s and had lovely experiences finding them. We both felt so special wearing them. We had tried to guess what they’d both be like in the run up to the day but the reality blew all of our ideas out the window.
Our cake was created by our Grannie. She is so talented when making iced flowers – they looked real! Such a special treat to have her make it for us.
Our Best Men (our brothers) and our two Ushers were amazing throughout the day – one Usher Sam, played the piano as we walked down the aisle which was so special and our other User Lee wrote an incredible poem, then there were the Best Man’s speeches! The boys were first class.
What was on the Menu?
We had prosecco and Peroni for the drinks reception! Simple but very effective it seemed. Then for the wedding breakfast we had stuffed mushroom to start, chicken and lots of hearty vegetables for the main then a delicious apple tart tartin and custard for pudding. It was all amazing!
What was your favourite part of the wedding?
Revealing our chosen surname after keeping it a secret for months!
Can you sum up your wedding day in 3 words?
Beyond our expectations
