Wedding Style: A Relaxed, Spring Wedding Day Filled with Copper Decor and Lots of Greenery!
Real Wedding at The West Mill Venue, Derbyshire
Your Love Story?
We met in 2013, it wasn’t the most romantic meeting but we saw each other at Sainsbury’s petrol station and it just kind of went from there!
We started meeting up a lot but it wasn’t until the following year when we got together. I was good friends with his brother in school, but had never met Adam before as he’s 7 years older than me. But we just kind of clicked and hit it off straight away!
I’d brought Adam a trip to York in March 2017 and this is where he proposed. I had absolutely no idea! I was so shocked as he admitted he’d had the ring for over 6 weeks and asked my parents permission, plus told all our friends, so I’m surprised no one let slip. But I’m so happy how it happened. Now 2 years on, after all the planning we’re happily married!
What was your inspiration and vision for your day?
We just wanted a relaxed fun day with all our family and friends where everyone enjoyed themselves. We wanted it to flow well from day to night, which it did perfectly!
I just love copper, rose gold and greenery, having seen lots of ideas on Instagram and Pinterest it was always going to include that. Adam wasn’t fussed on the finer details so I got to pick all the decor myself!
Why did you choose The West Mill Venue?
We originally thought about getting married abroad but once we’d seen the West Mill I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. Following the West Mill on Instagram just made me realise we had to get married there! We didn’t want anywhere too traditional and we loved the fact you could take your own drinks in and it just felt really relaxed in terms of decor and what you can and can’t bring into the venue. Nothing was too strict and all the staff were just so helpful. The venue is so quirky and beautiful and the grounds are stunning too, we just loved the rustic feel.
Did you do any DIY projects?
I spent a lot of time with copper spray in my hand! I made our favours a mixture of sweets, mints and shots!
I also made the world map seating plan with inspiration from pictures I’d seen on Pinterest. We had other copper decor like frames, candles and signs which were places all over the venue.
Adams granny and her friend did all of the venue flowers which we were so grateful and happy with!
We also had a doughnut wall which was fun collecting all the doughnuts with the bridesmaids the day before!
Tell us about the details…
Our bouquets were amazing. I’ve never really took much notice of flowers but when we got these I absolutely loved them, we chose peachy colours and whites which went with the copper theme and the bridesmaids dresses. I sent Maria a picture and she made them exactly like it! I had a little photo of my grandad attached as he’s passed away and I adored him so wanted him there with us!
The cake looked just how I imagined and tasted incredible!
My dress was completely different to the one I originally picked but I’m so glad with the one I wore! I never normally feel very comfortable dressed up, but I felt great and so comfortable in the dress on the day. Also thanks to the hair and make up ladies working their magic!
What was on the Menu?
We had a selection of beers/ciders, Prosecco, pink gin and mojitos. We also had a pimp your own station with syrups, shimmer and fruits so people could make their own drinks up!
We had a sweet treat table throughout the day and also the doughnut wall.
We had leek and potato soup (which everyone absolutely loved!), chicken stuffed with sage and onion, dauphinois potatoes and roasted vegetables. Then his and hers desserts, brownie and blondie served with ice cream. All delish!
The evening food was hot beef and pulled pork cobs which was perfect for people to just grab as they walked around! The food exceeded all expectations I wish I could have it again as I was aware my dress was tight fitting on the day!
What was your favourite part of the wedding?
I can’t pick just one favourite moment, the whole weekend was incredible, I stayed with my bridesmaids at the Mill House the night before and it was so much fun, I would 100% recommend booking the house. The morning of the wedding ran so smoothly, we were all ready and just enjoying some drinks before we walked down the aisle. It was just amazing to have everyone we loved there all together. As I walked down the aisle, the sun came out and we got to have the drinks reception outside which was perfect!
It really was the best day and Abi our events manager was just brilliant thank you so much!
Do you have any advice for future brides & grooms?
Enjoy every single minute, including the build up to it! Don’t get stressed about little things it will all come together and you won’t even notice on the day! The only thing I worried about was the vows as I hate speaking in front of people, but when you’re up there you don’t even think about everyone behind you, you’re just so happy!
I would recommend the West Mill to everyone, we honestly had the most perfect day and couldn’t be happier with how our wedding experience went!
