Taster Evenings

Tantalise your tastebuds (before your big day)…

When you book your wedding here at The West Mill one of the many things you can look forward to is attending one of our complimentary taster evenings. For many, the food plays a huge part in the wedding planning and that’s why we give you the chance to come and see, taste and experience the food ahead of the big day. But it’s not just about the food, you’ll also meet the events and catering teams, be inspired by the venue styling and suppliers and also meet other couples who are marrying with us.

A warm welcome

Upon your arrival at a Tasting Evening, we will invite you and your guests in for a glass of fizz and to enjoy an array of canapés amongst the fully dressed venue so you can be inspired for your own special day. Once seated in The Breakfast Room, your party will be served a different starter, main course and pudding, giving you the opportunity to try a number of our popular dishes.

Our talented chefs at The West Mill Kitchen are passionate about all things food, flavours and presentation and this is their chance to showcase their skills whilst tantalising your tastebuds!

You’ll be served three starters, mains and desserts for you to try and at the beginning of each course a member of the catering team will come and chat through the different dishes. The food served may not be what you have chosen for your wedding breakfast but it’s a still a great opportunity to taste and see how the food is presented. If you haven’t finalised your menu, the taster day will hopefully give you a boost of inspiration and we’d recommend bringing a little notebook and pen so you can take some ‘tasting notes’ about the food served on the day.

With a glass of fizz in one hand and a canapé in the other, there is always a real buzz around The West Mill at our taster days as couples explore the venue with friends and families. We often have live music playing on arrival and a pianist in The Cotton Quarter so you can really appreciate the acoustics of the room.  We know that it can be quite difficult to imagine the venue full of people, so when everyone takes their seats to dine, you’ll get a feel for what The Breakfast Room could look like on your day. It’s also a fab chance to chat with other couples about their wedding planning experiences and swap ideas and inspiration.

Our taster days are also a great opportunity to meet the whole West Mill Events Team. We’ll be on hand to answer any questions you may have and we’ll never pass at the chance to have a great wedding catch up! It’s also nice to put a face to the name so that when the invitation to your planning meeting comes along, you’ll know who is taking care of your special day. As well as meeting #teamwestmill you’ll also meet The West Mill Kitchen catering team. From the serving staff to the catering bookings managers, you’ll be able to chat all things food and it’s the perfect chance to see them in action.

We love to give you ideas on how to dress the venue which is why at out taster events we dress each floor as though it were a wedding day to inspire you for your own. We often collaborate with fabulous local suppliers too, from florists to stationers, specialist hire companies and entertainment, you may just find your dream team all under one roof.

Who doesn’t love a bit of wine and fizz tasting? In The Breakfast Room there’ll be a wine tasting table set up with a wide range of drinks available to purchase from our wine merchant, Darley Abbey Wines. The team will be on hand to answer your questions about the wines available and discuss how you can order your drinks for your wedding day as part of your no corkage.

When will our Taster Event be?

We have around 6 taster events spread throughout the year and you’ll typically be invited to an event around 9-12 months ahead of your wedding day.

How many people can we bring along?

You are able to bring along an additional 4 guests.

How much does the Taster Event cost?

The taster evening  is complimentary for our West Mill couples and £30 a head for each additional guest.

We’ve already had our catering meeting, will we be eating the menu we have chosen?

Not always, as there is such a wide choice of menu options available, the food served will be a sample menu of some of the most popular and seasonal dishes.

We’ve already confirmed our menu will we be able to change our mind?

Of course, you are welcome to change your menu up to 4 weeks before your wedding day at your final catering consultation.

When will get to update you with all our other wedding details?

You’ll be invited to your planning meeting around 2/3 months before your wedding day and it’s at this point you’ll be assigned your dedicated event manager. In the meantime do not hesitate to contact any of the events team with any queries you may have or feel free to book another visit to the venue.

Please be aware that if your Wedding Day falls within nine months of booking The West Mill it may not be possible to attend a Tasting Day.
